Harley Graham

FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Harley graduated from UNSW in Architecture and received the Board of Architects prize. He was then selected to be a part of an innovative team within Lend Lease Design working on Masterplanned communities in Australia and the USA. Soon after he travelled to Berlin, where he worked with Studio Daniel Libeskind on large mixed use and cultural projects in Switzerland, the UK, and China. HGA was then founded in Berlin and slowly came of age in Byron Bay, Australia. Harley has held teaching positions at UNSW, UTS and has tutored at Bond Uni.

Maxime Beaur

Max graduated from a masters at ENSAT National Architecture School of Toulouse. He was born in France but grew up in Tahiti and the Reunion Islands. These experiences gave Max a strong understanding of tropical architecture. After working for PPA architects in Toulouse he travelled to Australia and joined HGA in 2012. When he is not running the larger projects in the office he makes amazing art with spray cans and carves up his local break, ‘Dolphins’.

Hayley Pryor

Valuing a healthy lifestyle, the environment, and sustainability, Hayley grew up in a small coastal surfing town on the east coast, which fostered her with an appreciation of regional architecture. Specialising in boutique projects, Hayley studied her undergraduate degree at the University of Newcastle,where she was influenced by the likes of Stuchbury and Leplastrier, and gained invaluable experience in the field, working for a construction management company. During this time, Hayley’s architectural knowledge, married with hands on practical building principals, set her foundation for future endeavours.

After taking a subtropical sabbatical to Mexico, Central America and Asia and then moving to Byron Bay, Hayley studied her Masters degree at Queensland’s, Griffith University; while working full-time at HGA Architects. During this time she also toured to the Green School in Bali where she was immersed in the field of bamboo Architecture. Since joining HGA in 2013 Hayley has been involved numerous projects from concept to completion; ranging from small residential, to large scale commercial projects such as Stone & Wood Brewery.

Peter Tanevski

Peter also studied Architecture at Queensland University of Technology. Previously working with award winning Brisbane practice Bureau^Proberts, he gained experience working with high end multi-residential and commercial projects in the Brisbane CBD, as well as international memorials and urban art projects. He was the recipient of the Noel Robinson Award for Sustainable Architecture in his final year at university. Peter has come to HGA with the conscious pursuit of contextual detail and intricacy in architectural practice. Additionally he has a keen interest in developing his practical application of sustainable concepts in a strong community setting…full computer geek as well.

PAM ‘PJ’ DEASY

PJ graduated with the Master of Architecture from Griffith University, on the Gold Coast. Her final-year dissertation looked at the role of breeze block within contemporary architectural history in South East Queensland from 1955 to 1970. Her longstanding interest in contemporary architectural history was marked by academic journal Fabrications in the publishing of her co-authored article Lovely home in 2017. Building upon her dissertation work, PJ contributed an history essay which was published in The Breeze Block Book in 2019.

Before starting at HGA she worked with residential and small commercial projects on the Gold Coast. PJ kick-started her career working on an extension of her own home, which was featured in the annual Gold Coast Open House Event 2016 & 2017. In her spare time she works for charity Gumtree Greys rescuing, re-homing and rehabilitating ex-racing greyhounds.

Verity Nunan

Verity grew up in China spending her early years in Nanjing. It was here that her interest were sparked in language, people and how to live sustainably. Verity completed her Bachelor and Masters of Architecture at Griffith University. As part of her thesis, for many months Verity would walk off the track in the nature reserves surrounding the Byron Shire and meet the many people who call the bush home. With their permission she would make floor plans of these camps and discuss belonging from the perspective of those who live without a house. This longstanding interest in the human condition was marked by her publication of Home without a House in the academic Journal of Public space in 2017. Complimenting her architecture, Verity is an emerging expressionist artist and has exhibited locally and internationally. Also, she’s big into birds!

Tyler Gwyther

Tyler grew up close to Byron Bay, in the small coastal town of Brunswick Heads. He moved to the Gold Coast where he completed his undergraduate degree in Environmental Design (Architecture Studies) at Griffith University and undertook an exchange program at the City University of Hong Kong. It was during this period that he gained a great appreciation for sustainable design principles through his work.

In 2015, Tyler completed his Architectural masters degree at the University of Queensland while working in a small Brisbane studio focusing on educational buildings, commercial fit-outs & residential projects. He gained valuable experience in the initial project scoping and investigation stages through to detailed design, approvals, contract administration, construction, and post construction. Tyler later completed his Cert IV in Building and Construction having a strong passion for detail and hands on building experience.

Scott Wilson

Scott grew up in Brisbane and graduated with a Master of Architecture degree at Queensland University of Technology. During his degree, he travelled extensively throughout sub-tropical regions around the world. This inspired his interest in the various ways that different cultures design and build to respond to the climate.

Since graduating, Scott has worked on and led a variety of residential, commercial and hospitality projects – some of which have won architecture prizes in Queensland and Australia. Scott actively seeks to entwine landscape and architecture, whilst embedding playful and thought-provoking elements in his designs. He is passionate about creating spaces that enrich people’s daily lives.

Cecilia Baker

Cecilia spent her formative years bouncing between the cities of London, Kuala Lumpur and Brisbane. Growing up immersed in different cultures sparked an early interest in human interaction and the way in which architecture provides the backdrop to daily rituals and customs. Her interest to better understand people and place and to shape the built environment inspired Cecilia to complete a Master’s degree in Architecture at the Queensland University of Technology. Further to this she was selected by the prestigious Architecture Association in London, to embark on a nomadic design studio in Madagascar. Here she had the privilege of analysing and responding to some of the most biodiverse and remote sites on earth where she investigated the consequences of environmental, cultural and technological scenarios.

Cecilia has worked for a number of boutique architectural practices, gaining experience on a range of building typologies within various scales and contexts. Drawing on her experience, Cecilia strives to create meaningful architecture which is grounded
